General Information
An excellent series of highways makes Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag (The Hague) and Groningen a short day trip from anywhere in The Netherlands. Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. Seatbelts and child seats for children up to 40 lbs are mandatory. Child under 12 and/or 54 inches in height cannot travel as front seat passenger unless using suitable restraint system.

Speed limits in The Netherlands are as follows: City 31mph/50kph Open Roads 49mph/80kph Highways 75mph/120kph
Rules of the Road
Traffic travels on the right and all trams should be passed on the right. Passing or turning is forbidden on roads with a continuous white line.
Gas
In most cities, gas stations are open from 8am to 9pm. Stations are open 24 hours on national highways.
Tolls
There are no toll highways in the Netherlands.
Parking
In cities, you will need a time stamped parking disc to park in 'blue zone' areas. These discs, placed on the dashboard, can be obtained at motor club offices, tobacco shops and police stations. Parking is not available by black and white or yellow curbs
